What is Augmented Reality (AR) and why is it important?

Augmented Reality is defined as a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view. We use AR to help empower boaters vision when normal vision is limited. All Elliot features will be able to be viewed in AR mode. This is especially helpful when trying to gauge the distance to a marker in dense fog, for instance. Our AR capabilities are just evolving. We hope to make AR a cornerstone of Elliot in the near future.

What is the logbook and how does it work?

The Elliot Logbook is one of our greatest features. We designed the Logbook to help captains with the everyday task of creating a log while onboard. The Logbook automatically logs environmental information, travel specifics and performance statistics. Captains can also enter a written log of each day. The Log is securely stored on Elliot’s cloud servers and available from any device when logged in.

What is user-generated content?

Users are the most powerful component of Elliot. Elliot’ers use the platform to share points of interest (POI’s) and courses details with each other and the greater Elliot community. The content that they create can easily be shared to enhance the knowledge of all Elliot users, creating a safer and more enjoyable boating environment.

What is system-generated content?

Elliot has two types of system-generated content publishers. We produce our own content such as Marinas. Commercial partners have chosen Elliot as a vehicle to reach users and broadcast their relevant places of interest and/ or relevant services. Government partners may use Elliot to broadcast weather warnings or update map details.

What is the ‘Siren’ feature?

Siren is a concept feature. We wanted to give users the ability to notify their friends with the simple push of a button, while underway. As boaters, we sometimes need to capture the attention of our larger community, quickly. ‘Siren’ helps by broadcasting a message to all of a user’s mates at one time.

Is it important to have a vessel listed?

Elliot is an application for boaters. We felt it was necessary to allow boaters to use the app with one boat or multiple boats.
